Questions
Questions people keep asking
-
Is the solution in the book?
No. This is where you find out whether you’ve solved it: submit the exit cell on this site, and I’ll tell you if it’s the right one.
-
What’s the best way to apply the rules?
There are three steps, in this order.
Start with the broadest rules — the ones that affect an entire column, a page, or several pages at once. They eliminate a lot of cells in a single pass and determine what comes next.
Then, page by page, identify which creatures and terrain are present. That will tell you which rules apply.
Do your crossing out last.

How do I count the columns?
The columns aren’t numbered in the book. Count them separately on each page, from left to right, 1 through 8.
-
How do I enter a cell’s coordinates?
Enter three numbers: the page, the column, and the row.
The page number is printed at the bottom. The rows are numbered 1 through 30 down the side. You’ll need to count the columns yourself, 1 through 8.
-
The site says I’ve reached a dead end. Have I lost everything?
No. A dead end is a dead end, not a fatal mistake. Just go back the number of cells I gave you.
Everything you worked out before that still stands.

How long does it take to finish the book?
For most people, several days — or even several weeks. This isn’t a book you finish in one evening, and it was never designed to be.
The “They just got out” table on the statistics page shows how long the most recent adventurers took to make it out.
